Product Description

These hand painted plates are from Rishtan, one of the oldest centres of ceramic production in Uzbekistan.

Crafted by Rustam Usmanov, his son Damir, and their apprentices in their home workshop, these plates are made from unique red Rishtan clay, and are painted with the ishkor glaze giving the pottery a distinctive blue-green colour.

Rustam Usmanov is a member of the Art Academy of Uzbekistan, and a winner of the UNESCO Award of Excellence for his blue Rishtan ceramic pottery.

All plates are one-off designs, but are painted using the same colours. Please be aware of this when ordering.

The plates will be delivered wrapped in recycled tissue paper in a recycled cardboard box.

The quality of the painting is quite simply outstanding, delicate, finely marked with a perfect understanding of what marks are made and how they can be made the most of. The colouring limited, as it should be and the care and application of the pattern marking doesn’t change at all. There is very little quality hand painting done these days, and most of that is crude, presented as bold – this makes a refreshing change.

I knew when I ordered my beautiful plate from Made & Told I was buying a truly unique gift. I wasn’t disappointed. The design, the colours and the craftsmanship are features you won’t find in the shops. Best of all there is a special story that goes with it. My friend loved her present and I loved giving it.
